1976
After 1948 to 1950 based metal coinage, Pakistan government decided to produce some commemorative coins from foreign mints in Gold and Silver metals. British Royal Mint produced two silver and one gold coin for some 22 countries from 1974 to 1979 based on their endangered animals known as Conservation series. Pakistan was also one of them to produce 100 and 150 Rupees in silver and 3000 Rupees in gold. Secondly the year 1976 coincided with Muhammad Ali Jinnah's 100th birthday. M/s. Italcambio, Venezuela, was contacted to produced a 100 Rupees coin in silver and 500 Rupees coin in gold.

The Western Tragopan or Western Horned Tragopan (Tragopan melanocephalus) is a medium sized brightly plumaged pheasant found along the Himalayas from Hazara in northern Pakistan in the west to Uttarakhand within India to the east. The species is highly endangered and globally threatened. Five populations are known from Kohistan, Kaghan valley, Kishtwar, Chamba, Kulu and an area east of the Sutlej river. They are found from an altitude of 1750 m to 3600 m, going up higher in summer. Their preferred habitat is the dense understorey of temperate, subalpine and broad-leaved forest. It inhabits upper temperate forests between 2400 and 3600 m in summer, and in winter, dense coniferous and broad-leaved forests between 2000 to 2800 m elevations. The Western Tragopan is mostly arboreal but feeds on the ground. They mostly feed on leaves, shoots, seeds, but also consume insects and other invertebrates. Like most of the pheasants, they roost on trees singly or in pairs except during nesting. They also display blue horns with a fancied resemblance to those of the Greek mythological god Pan, whence the name Tragopan (Tragos goat + Pan). During the display they call and the song is a loud two-note ringing wou-weee which is repeated every second for long periods. The breeding season is May-June. They build their nests in low tree hollows. The Western Tragopan is considered as the rarest of all living pheasants. Their range is very restricted. In Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh, this bird is locally called Jujurana which means King of Birds.

The gharial (Gavialis gangeticus), sometimes called the Indian gavial or gavial, is one of two surviving members of the family Gavialidae, a long-established group of crocodile-like reptiles with long, narrow jaws. Gharials once thrived in all the major river systems of the Indian subcontinent, spanning the rivers of its northern part from the Indus in Pakistan across the Gangetic floodplain to the Irrawaddy in Myanmar. Today their distribution is limited to only 2% of their former range. They are extinct in Pakistan's Indus River, in the Brahmaputra of Bhutan and Bangladesh and in the Irrawaddy River in Myanmar. In India small populations are present and increasing in the rivers of the National Chambal Sanctuary, Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary, Son River Sanctuary and the rainforest biome of Mahanadi in Satkosia Gorge Sanctuary, Orissa, where they apparently don't breed. In Nepal small populations are present and slowly recovering in tributaries of the Ganges, such as the Narayani-Rapti river system in Chitwan National Park and the Karnali-Babai river system in Bardia National Park The gharial is not a man-eater and is sensitive towards humans. Despite its immense size, its thin and fragile jaws make it physically incapable and impossible to consume a large animal, especially a human being. Young gharials eat insects, larvae, and small frogs. Mature adults feed almost solely on fish. In the 1970s the gharial came to the brink of extinction and even now remains on the critically endangered list.

Astor Markhor or Flare-horned Markhor (Capra falconeri falconeri): Has large, flat horns, branching out very widely, and then going up nearly straight with only a half turn. Markhor stand 65 to 115 centimetres (26 to 45 in) at the shoulder, 132 to 186 centimetres (52 to 73 in) in length and weigh from 32 to 110 kilograms (71 to 240 lb). Astor Markhor is an endangered markhor, native to Kashmir and northern Pakistan. Astor markhor populations are scattered, starting east of the Banihal pass (50 km from the Chenab river) on the Jammu-Srinagar highway westward to the disputed border with Pakistan. Recent surveys indicate that it still occurs in catchments of the Limber and Lachipora rivers in the Jhelum Valley Forest Division, and around Shupiyan to the south of Srinagar. The Astor markhor there is restricted to the Indus and its tributaries, as well as to the Kunar (Chitral) river and its tributaries. Along the Indus, it inhabits both banks from Jalkot (Kohistan District) upstream to near the Tungas village (Baltistan), with Gakuch being its western limit up the Gilgit River, Chalt up the Hunza River, and the Parishing valley up the Astore River. It is synonymous with Capra falconeri cashmiriensis (Pir Punjal Markhor), which has heavy, flat horns, twisted like a corkscrew.
